February also signals the eagerly anticipated return of the Six Nations Rugby to our screens. We are showing each and every match on all of our big screens. Dont forget, if you cant be there, be here! February is also known as the month of loooove and how well did IRFU plan that one, bringing over the "Lovely" French for Valentines and naturally to play Ireland on that very same day! Great PR! That will be a cracker of a game. We gave Italy a great game too on 07th Feb. Lets hope we can do the Grand Slam again. See our events page for the full line up. Speaking of Valentine's Day, there'll be plenty of rugby boots and high heels out and about that night! We are serving food from 12pm to 10pm that day and everyday.

We've kept it short and sweet this month folks! See you all at the bar for a banter and a pint.
Until March .......
Welcome to January folks. Without further ado we wish you all a Very Happy New Year. Hope its a great one for y'all.
Lets reflect on December ...... Well that was a hectic one! We barely got a breather during the month, not that we're complaining, it was truly heartwarming to see the turnout of chrismtas jumpers throughout the whole month. Not to mention the 12 pubs of Christmas, what a great lot you all were! Some of you only managed two or three and finished up in the Porterhouse Central, now thats what we call loyal customers and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We've had various Chrismtas parties throughout the month and more to come in January. New Years Eve we had the after party (so to speak!) of the College Green Gig. Kodaline really know how to please. It makes us proud to be Irish when you hear these guys banging out their hits on stage.
In the midst of all the Christmas parties and get togethers we saw the launch of An Cliabhán in the whiskey bar. What is An Cliabhán you ask? Well, An Cliabhán is the Irish for "The Birth" or "The Cradle". Our Founding Fathers got the opportunity to become part of another unique piece of sheer intelligence here at the Porterhouse. On offer on the day was the opportunity to purchase your own piece of master blending - for the small price of €85 you got 4 250ml bottles containing the following - 1 containing newly made spirit 63.5%abv, 1 containing one year matured spirit in a bourbon cask 62.2%abv, 1 containing one year matured spirit in a sherry cask 62.4%abv, 1 containing one year matured spirit in a port cask 61.9% abv, plus two Dingle Glasses and a sampling pipette. Until the new spirit is 3 years old it cannot be called whiskey, its the law for Irish whiskey. Once they are all finally matured they will be vatted together and the eventual product will be whiskey. The product will be stored under bond for the period of 3 years and 1 day. The final product will be your very own whiskey registered to the owner. In essence the purchaser is now a master blender! Its very unique.
Moving on to January ....... The month of quitting one habit and replacing it with another. The month of counting down the days to payday. The month of having no choice but to eat less because you're broke! The month of making changes. This normally lasts for the first week or maybe two in January, so fear not, we are still here to serve you when you decide you've given up giving up! See you Friday night after work! We barely got a breather over the first day in January till we were greeted by the New Year and Christmas straddlers which we were so happy to see! We love those who refuse to give up on the festivities and want to celebrate just a wee bit longer, we're much the same ourselves to be honest! Sure there'll still be lots of Christmas parties going on in January for those in the industry (like ourselves) who worked tirelessly throughout the silly season to keep your drinks topped up and your bellies full! So in other words, no rest for the porterhouse team, just the way we like it.
We would like to thank you all for your loyal custom throughout 2014 and into 2015. We look forward to seeing you all over the year.
*** Just a gentle reminder folks, the long awaited Luas line link up is getting underway mid January (we will be graced by the sound of road works everyday!). Dont let that deter you from coming into us here at Central as we are still fully operational. We can also be accessed by Grafton St, Adam Court ***
13th November 2014
Welcome to November.
So winter is here, but it is a Nice warm Halloween this year, and it fell on a Friday, loads dressed up, place was packed. We also had a great Bank holiday weekend the week before, with our new Sunday band ‘The lord Henrys’ seriously good band, they have a ‘Eskie’ style about them.
November brings the Autumn Internationals, Ireland did well so far (correct at time of print). Rugby always brings a great atmosphere to this place, loads of screens, tasty food and beer flowing.
Speaking of beer, we have several rolling taps for guest beers on the go all the time. Putting on One keg of guest craft beer, washing the line and putting on something new when it is empty. This keeps our choice of draught fresh, always changing. In this new era in craft beer bars we were delighted to win ‘Craft beer bar of the year’, thanks for voting.
This year will see a Christmas market at St. Stephens Green. With more than 60 trade concessions located in traditional wooden chalets along the exterior of St Stephen’s Green Park between Grafton Street and Merrion Row, the Market will offer a unique selection of quality Irish made handcrafted gift items, including accessories, woodcrafts, jams and preserves and prints as well as seasonal food and drinks to include charcoal grills, crepes, bratwurst, chocolate fountain, Gluhwein as well as other seasonal non-alcoholic drinks. You know where we are if you require some Alcoholic beverages, maybe a mulled wine to get you warmed up.
Talk to you in December,
Not much to write about for January, so here we are in February/March. That means the 6 nations and Paddy’s day, whoo hoo! So far so good for the big boys in green, except for the game in Twickenham, they did give it everything, fair play. We were packed for all the games so far, more of the same to come.
We brought back our lunch menu in February with some tasty offerings at more of a lunch price. We now have 3 different Cask beers on the go, either our own TSB, Hophead or Brainblasta or some guest beers including Thornbridge Kipling, Hopton and Jaipur. Definitely worth a visit for them alone.
The St. Patricks festival kicks off in Dublin on the 14th of March with plenty happening around the city. Click on this link for more info www.stpatricksfestival.ie . The Last day of the 6 Nations is on the Saturday and we play the last match at 5pm against Le France. The festival finale is on St. Patricks day, marathon session of craic. We will be serving full food menu upstairs, dancing and drinking downstairs, DJ from 5pm til very late.
All the best from all the staff in Central.
The place is looking good, with a lick of paint, a fresh new floor and some new lighting. Our burgers and Steaks are now flame-grilled. Come in and check us out.
During September we will be celebrating the hoppier of the ales, pale ales and India pale ales from Europe and the US. We have a new brew, Paleface Irish pale ale. This Indian Summer festival will also offer you some tastes of India, with some delicious curries available.
Over the next few weeks we will have the All Ireland GAA finals, football between Dublin and Mayo on Sunday the 22nd September and the Hurling Final Replay between Clare and Cork on Saturday the 28th. Plenty of screens in here if you can’t be there.
The end of September brings Oktoberfest to Munich and we follow this with our own Oktoberfest from the 10th to the 20th of October.
We then have Halloween running from 28th October to Friday the 1st of November.
Check out our Facebook page for specials and other info.
Talk to you all soon
